How to trim a song into a ringtone

Five steps, about fifteen seconds once you know the part you want. Everything happens in the page above; there is nothing to install.

  1. Tap “Choose a song or video” and pick a file from Files. Voice Memos and videos work too.
  2. Drag the two handles around the part you want, or tap a Quick pick: First 30 s, Loudest 30 s or Chorus.
  3. Tap Play to hear it. Turn on Loop to hear the moment the ringtone wraps back to its start.
  4. Tap iPhone for an M4R ringtone, or Android for an MP3.
  5. Save the file, then follow the three taps shown on screen to set it as your ringtone.

Why the cut stops at 29.9 seconds

iOS refuses ringtones longer than 30 seconds: the “Use as Ringtone” option simply does not appear. So RingTrim never makes an iPhone file that long. The selection cannot grow past the limit, and the encoder checks again before it writes a single byte.

The finished file is a few hundredths of a second shorter than 30. iPhone ringtones are AAC audio, which is stored in blocks of 1,024 samples, and a cut of exactly 30.000 seconds comes out a fraction over the line once those blocks are filled. Stopping one block early keeps every file inside the limit.

Files you can trim

Input formats and what to expect
FormatWorksNotes
MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV Yes The most common music and voice files.
FLAC, OGG, Opus Usually Depends on the browser. If one will not open, convert it to MP3 first.
MP4, MOV, WEBM video Yes Only the sound is used; the picture is ignored.
Voice Memos Yes Share the memo to Files first, then pick it here.
Apple Music downloads No They are copy-protected, so no app or site can cut them.

Your song stays on your phone

Most ringtone sites send your song to their server, cut it there and send it back. RingTrim does the whole job inside your browser: reading the file, drawing the waveform, cutting and encoding. Your audio never leaves the device.

You do not have to take our word for it. The counter under the export buttons adds up every byte this page sends, and it stays at 0 while you trim. Files up to 200 MB are accepted.

Questions

Is RingTrim free?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how many ringtones you make.

Why does my ringtone stop at 29.9 seconds instead of 30?

iPhone ringtones are AAC audio, stored in blocks of 1,024 samples. A cut of exactly 30 seconds ends a fraction over the limit once the last block is filled, so RingTrim stops one block early. The difference is under a twentieth of a second.

Does RingTrim upload my song?

No. The file is read, cut and saved inside your browser. The live counter under the export buttons shows how many bytes the page has sent, and it stays at 0.

Can I use a song from Apple Music?

No. Apple Music downloads are copy-protected, so they cannot be opened by any editor. Use a song you bought from iTunes, a file you own, or a recording you made.

Does it work on Android?

Yes. Tap Android to get an MP3 of the same cut. Android accepts ringtones of any length; the steps to set one differ a little by phone brand.

My iPhone runs iOS 18 or older. Can I still use the file?

Yes, through GarageBand. After you save the file, RingTrim shows the GarageBand steps alongside the iOS 26 ones.
