Make a ringtone from a video
Short answer: RingTrim takes the sound from a video on your phone and turns it into a ringtone. Choose an MP4, MOV or WEBM video, trim the audio to under 30 seconds and tap iPhone. The picture is ignored, nothing is uploaded, and the result installs from the Files app like any other ringtone.
Pick a video to turn into a ringtone
Steps
- Make sure the video is saved on your phone, in Photos or in Files.
- In RingTrim, tap “Choose a song or video” and pick the video.
- Wait for the waveform to appear, then mark the part you want.
- Tap iPhone, save the M4R, and set it with Share → Use as Ringtone in Files.
Which videos work
| Video | Works | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone camera videos (MOV) | Yes | Including HEVC videos; only the sound is read. |
| MP4 downloads and exports | Yes | The most common format. |
| Screen recordings | Yes | Only if the microphone or app sound was on while recording. |
| WEBM | Usually | Depends on the browser. If it will not open, save the video as MP4 first. |
Big videos
Videos up to 200 MB are accepted. RingTrim reads only the sound track, so a long video takes a few seconds to scan but does not fill your phone’s memory. If a video is larger than that, trim it in Photos first: tap Edit, drag the ends of the timeline, then Save Video as New Clip.
Whose sound is it?
A ringtone for your own phone is personal use, but sounds from films, adverts and other people’s clips still belong to someone. Use clips you made or have the right to use, and do not share the ringtone around.
Questions
Does RingTrim upload the video?
No. The video is opened inside your browser, only its sound is decoded, and nothing is sent to a server.
Can I paste a link to an online video?
No. RingTrim only works with files that are already on your phone. It does not download from websites.
The video has no sound in the ringtone. Why?
The video probably has no sound track, which is common with screen recordings made with sound off. RingTrim shows a message when it finds no audio.
