Turn a Voice Memo into a ringtone
Short answer: Voice Memos cannot set a ringtone by itself, but it can save a recording to the Files app. Open the memo, tap the More button, choose Share, then Save to Files. Open that file in RingTrim, trim it below 30 seconds and tap iPhone. The new file installs with Use as Ringtone.
Open your Voice Memo in RingTrim
Steps
- In Voice Memos, tap the recording, then the More button (three dots).
- Tap Share, then Save to Files, and pick a folder you will find again.
- In RingTrim, tap “Choose a song or video” and open the memo from that folder.
- Trim it, tap iPhone, save, then use Share → Use as Ringtone in Files.
Recording something that works as a ringtone
- Hold the phone 15 to 30 centimetres from your mouth. Closer than that distorts; further away sounds thin.
- Record in a quiet room. Phone speakers make background hum more obvious, not less.
- Leave a second of silence before you start, then trim it off. It is easier than starting on cue.
- Say it loudly. RingTrim does not boost volume, so a quiet memo makes a quiet ringtone.
What file a Voice Memo gives you
Voice Memos saves recordings as M4A files. RingTrim opens them directly, so there is no need to convert anything first. The finished ringtone is a new M4R file; your original memo is not changed.
Questions
Can I record straight into RingTrim?
No. RingTrim only trims files you already have. Record in Voice Memos, save to Files, then open it here.
My memo is quiet. Can RingTrim make it louder?
Not yet. Re-record closer to the microphone, or speak up. A volume boost is outside what RingTrim does.
Does the recording get uploaded?
No. It is read and trimmed inside your browser and never leaves the phone.
